About the Internship Programme

INTERPOL's Internship Programme welcomes candidates from any of our member countries and provides them with:

A better understanding of the Organization's goals and objectives and how international police cooperation is organized;

An insight into how an international organization operates;

A framework to enhance their educational experience through practical work assignments, thereby developing skills which are useful for their career and future employment;

Experience of working in a multicultural, multidisciplinary and multi-ethnic environment, contributing to the development of mutual understanding, trust and tolerance.

INTERPOL also benefits from the Programme by having:

The input of qualified persons whose background enables them to give a fresh point of view and up-to-date academic knowledge;

Support for the completion of specific projects.


Eligibility

All applicants must:

Be enrolled in, or have graduated from, a post-secondary accredited academic institution within the past six months on the date of submission of their application;

Be a national of one of INTERPOL's member countries;

Have attained the legal age of majority in their country of nationality;

Be fluent in English.

Meet the requirements indicated for each specific internship opening they wish to apply for.


Application process and assessment method

Application process

Only applications submitted in response to a specific internship vacancy will be considered. Due to the large number of applications received, we are unable to answer individual queries

When applying for the first time, you will be asked to create an account.

A completed online application is required and should include a cover letter including:

Your motivation to join the INTERPOL internship programme;

Your interest in and your assets for the specific internship you are applying for;

Your expectations for this internship.


Assessment method

All applications will be assessed against the requirements indicated in the vacancy notice. Candidates who meet these requirements most closely will be contacted by the hiring manager directly for further consideration and assessment.

INTERPOL does not discriminate on any grounds and candidates will be treated under conditions of equality.


Conditions of internships

Status

Interns are not be considered as a member of the INTERPOL staff and thus shall not be subject to the INTERPOL Staff manual.

Duty station

The majority of INTERPOL's internship opportunities are based in the General Secretariat in Lyon, France. Other opportunities may arise in any of the other duty stations where the Organization has a presence: the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation in Singapore as well as the Regional Bureaus and Liaison Offices.

Duration

The length of an internship is directly related to the needs of the hiring service and is indicated in each internship vacancy. It varies from a minimum of six to a maximum of 11 months.

Remuneration

Interns are entitled to receive a monthly allowance of 550 euros (amount set for internships based in Lyon). The allowance will be adjusted to the different duty stations according to the UN cost of living index and it will be prorated according to the number of days worked during the month.

Costs

All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by the intern.

INTERPOL does not reimburse any expenses related to the recruitment and selection processes.

Security clearance

A confidentiality vetting inquiry will be carried out on behalf of the Organization prior to confirming any selection. By accepting this offer, you give the Organization expressed consent for completing this inquiry.

If selected, you will be required to produce a certificate of non-criminal records (including spent and unspent sentences pronounced by justice) from your country of nationality and from any other country in which you have resided for more than 12 months in the past five years. If you are considered at a further stage of the selection process (interview) we advise you to familiarize yourself with the procedure for requesting such documentation in the concerned countries so that, if accepted, your arrival to the Organization is not unnecessarily delayed.

Visa

Interns are responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas. INTERPOL will provide the selected candidates with the necessary documents.

Travel

Interns are responsible for arranging and financing their travel to and from the duty station.

Medical insurance

Interns are responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship and will be required to provide a medical insurance certificate, covering in case of illness and death, valid for the entire duration of your internship prior to starting the internship.

Confidentiality

You must be discreet and keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.
